Marta Jiménez-Salcedo is a visual artist and costume designer.
Based in Spain, her ongoing line of work researches the use of unusual
materials and methods in the construction of costumes that can inform
new lines in choreography and performative language.
She is graduated in Fine Arts by the University of Barcelona and MA in Costume Design for Performance by University of the Arts London.
Since 2007 she has been involved in numerous art projects including El Largo ahora by Danza Universitaria Company (University of Costa Rica) 2017, Balikbayan shown at Cloud Dance Festival 2014, the personal project There Is Not Way Back at Sadler ́s Wells Theatre 2012 and Shakespeare In A Suitcase at Victoria & Albert Museum 2012.
Her publication called Jasmine for dresses, fine wool like glass/ Costume as a Catalyst of Art Proposals (Jazmín de vestido, cristal de Papel, El vestuario escénico como dispositivo artístico) was shortlisted in The Best Performance Design & Scenography Publication Award, in Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2015. She has also been nominated for Deustche Bank Design Awards (London 2013) and won the 1st Prize in the Visual Arts Competition of La Casa Elizalde Cultural Centre (Barcelona 2008) and in the Antonio Saura Grant for Training and Artistic Research by the Provincial Government of Huesca (Huesca 2011).
Marta is member of OISTAT (International Organization of Scenographers Theatre Architects and Technicians) and AAPEE (Association of Stage Plastic Artists of Spain) helping to strengthen international networking through her active participation and organization of various events like Annual meeting of the costume design subcommittee of the OISTAT in Madrid (2018), III Symposium of Theatrical Plastic, The Costume within the scene (2017) or the exhibition Innovative Costume of the 21st Century, The next Generation which she is currently curating.
